Axis perspective

Electrical insulating oils cannot be selected by a generic product label. The equipment, applicable standard and qualification values must define the review.

01

Different systems, different fluid profiles

Transformer oils may prioritize oxidation stability, low-temperature behavior and heat transfer. Oil-filled high-voltage cable systems may require low-viscosity synthetic fluids with a specific electrical profile. Capacitor applications introduce another set of design and dielectric considerations.

Mineral transformer oils, ester-based fluids and synthetic linear alkylbenzene cable oils therefore belong to related—but technically distinct—product families.

02

Parameters to establish before sourcing

The evaluation should be tied to the applicable project specification and testing method.

  • Equipment and precise application
  • Applicable IEC, ASTM, OEM or client specification
  • Dielectric breakdown voltage and dissipation factor
  • Water content, acidity and interfacial tension
  • Viscosity and low-temperature requirements
  • Packaging, cleanliness and batch-document needs
03

Qualification before commercial scale

A disciplined process links document review, samples and laboratory evaluation before recurring supply. Axis manages that qualification path directly with the customer.
